Packing tips

Packing your goods – Whether you’re opting for long or short term storage, you’ll want to be sure that your possessions are packed and wrapped safely and securely.

Even though all our storage units are clean and dry, we recommend you use cardboard boxes for short term storage, and perhaps consider using plastic ones for the longer term.

Our HomeStore Shop sells everything you might need for protecting your goods while moving and storing them, including boxes, bubble wrap and sticky tape.

Packing Top Tips

  1. Make sure every box/piece is labelled with your last name.
  2. Tape all the seams of the cartons (top, bottom and side) so that they won’t collapse.
  3. Fill the boxes tightly to the top, using packing materials in any unused spaces and voids. We don’t recommend printed newspaper as it can mark your goods.
  4. If storing furniture, make sure it is well wrapped for full protection during storage and put furniture covers or blankets over it.
  5. Books are heavy, so it is best to pack them in smaller cartons.
  6. With clothes, dresses, suits, jackets and coats can be packed in hanging wardrobe boxes, with other items folded in large cartons or suitcases.
